Sweet tea that is fermented in a culture of yeast and bacteria. Kombucha most likely originated most likely in China over two thousand years ago. It was known as ‘The Tea of Immortality’.
Why do people drink it?
It tastes good and makes you feel good. The main reason people drink kombucha is because the combination of probiotics and acids help support a healthy digestive system and overall health. A SCOBY stands for the Symbiotic Culture of Bacteria and Yeast. The SCOBY is the visible living part of kombucha, although the liquid is living too. Although some people refer to a SCOBY as a mushroom, it is not. Instead it is a cellulose structure and is full of the beneficial probiotics.
